About this tour
Coimbra is unlike any other city in Portugal. On this private walking tour of Coimbra's historic center, you'll see students still wearing black capes that look straight out of Hogwarts. The University of Coimbra was founded in 1290, making it one of the oldest universities in the world. And somewhere in these medieval streets, Portugal's most tragic love story, Dom Pedro and Inês de Castro, actually happened.
This 3-hour private Coimbra city tour takes you through all of it: hidden viewpoints, ancient churches, cobblestone alleys and stories that never made it into the guidebooks.
Midway through, we stop at Café Santa Cruz, a 16th century chapel turned café, for a traditional local treat. Private, unhurried and built entirely around you.

Good to Know
The Joanina Library requires a separate paid ticket, booked in advance. Just get in touch before the tour and I'll help you arrange it.
The University of Coimbra has accredited me to accompany visitors inside the library, so I can go in with you during the tour. Let me know when you get in touch, because I need a ticket of my own for the same time slot. Entry is timed and the visit lasts exactly 20 minutes.
If you prefer, you can also visit the library on your own after the tour. Either way, I'll explain what you're about to see beforehand.
